Ie Atelier

The house decides what it needs. Then we find the people who can make it.

Objects the house uses every day — commissioned, tested in the rooms, then made in small editions. Tea, ceramics, incense, copper, paper, light.

How an object comes to Ie

  1. Listen

What does the house actually use? A cup, a lid rest, a lamp for a dark room.

  2. Commission

A maker is asked, often after spending time in the house.

  3. Use

The prototype lives in the rooms first, and is changed by daily use.

  4. Edition

Made in small numbers, each with a card naming the maker, the material and where it is used in the house.

  5. Carry home

A guest leaves with something that was part of the house's day.

After you leave

A piece of Ie can leave with you. An object from the rooms. Refills of the house tea. The maker's card that came with it. Later, a small book of the house's chapters.
